Emotional Freedom Technique

Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) is emerging as a simple, fast, drug-free, safe and painless treatment for supporting individuals with stress, anxiety, physical pain, fears, phobias, PTSD, limiting beliefs and trauma.  It can also be used in the sports profession for improving performance.

Negative emotions cause disturbances in the body’s energy system and light tapping on specific meridian points while focusing on a traumatic memory, fear or phobia can reduce or remove the distress helping the individual to feel better.

Research* has shown that its effects are lasting, provides relief at a very deep level and allows individuals to get on with their lives.

What happens during an EFT session?

A case history is taken to explore the issue that is causing distress in a person’s life. The level of distress is measured on a scale of 0 to 10, where 10 is highly stressful and 0 represents no stress.  A set-up phrase to work on the issue is agreed and spoken by the client while the therapist taps gently on specific points on the face, torso and hands (the client can tap on themselves if they wish).

After a round of tapping, the level of distress score is taken again – usually it will have reduced and further rounds of tapping with other set-up phrases for associated aspects of the issue will be made until the score level is down to or near zero. At this stage, the issue will have been disarmed.

In some cases, homework will be given to the client so that they can continue working on the issue themselves until its disarmed.

EFT has been used in challenging situations such treating traumatised victims of war zones and global disaster sites and is used in several NHS Trusts in the UK.

EFT has spread rapidly worldwide and is being used by natural health therapists, nurses, psychologists, psychotherapists, social workers, personal coaches, hypnotherapists, chiropractors, dentists and companies specialising in weight loss.
